Two Lanes Diverged is the fourth episode in Season 2 of My Adventures with Superman, and the fourteenth episode overall. It premiered on June 9, 2024.
Synopsis[]
When Jimmy is invited to speak at the S.T.A.R. Labs Symposium, Clark is happy to come along as support…until Lex Luthor takes over! Meanwhile, the General goes on the run -- and Lois runs after him, visions of their past clashing with the present.
Plot[]
Back when she was a child, Lois was trained in survival tactics by her father. She had fun in the woods with him, but this time, her mother couldn't come with them. She is too sick to even help Lois with her homework. Even so, Sam is committed to teaching Lois everything he knows. Lois' training continued for years and, after her mother died, Sam grew increasingly distant from her to the point he treated her less like a daughter and more like a recruit. The Lanes moved across the entire world because of Sam's job and Lois failed to keep in touch with her friends.
This all culminates in a camping trip the Lanes took when Lois has started to become an adult. She was sleeping in her tent, and she woke up, Sam was nowhere to be found. She ran across the woods looking for him, and when she found him, he congratulated her. It was just a test and Lois passed with flying colors. Lois is angry that, even after all these years, Sam still sees her as a cadet and says that all this time, she has been making up excuses for his lack of attention in his life, but now, she will make a life outside of his influence.
When Clark and Jimmy return to their apartment, Sam tells them that he may have been compromised. He's so paranoid that he has blocked the windows and turned off the lights. Jimmy gets a package from S.T.A.R. Labs, a transmitter that invites him, Superman's best friend, to the 23rd S.T.A.R. Labs Symposium. Meanwhile, Sam gets a message on his phone that says that people are tracking him.
Later, Clark tries to call Lois but doesn't get answer. Instead, he leaves a message and says that he needs to talk to her. Jimmy picks Clark in an expensive limo so they can to the Symposium together. Clark believes that Jimmy needs him at the Symposium because he is an alien, but Jimmy just wants Clark to be there because he is Jimmy's friend and needs his support.
Meanwhile, Lois arrives at Clark's apartment because she wants to see if her father is okay, only to find no one present. Still, she sees her father running across the street and decides to follow him. She watches him enter a secret room to acquire weapon and catches up to him. Sam believes he's been compromised but Lois doesn't believe him, until they are attacked by Damage and forced to escape into the sewers.
Clark and Jimmy arrive at the Symposium and begin to have fun with the machines. Clark even takes the opportunity to thank Jimmy for being his friend. Suddenly, Jimmy is called to the auditorium so he can talk in the Symposium's central topic, the Superman Problem. Jimmy was invited to talk in Superman's behalf against Lex, who will debate against Superman and aliens in general. Jimmy obviously believes Superman's presence is beneficial to humanity because he uses his powers to help people.
However, Lex asks what would happen if Superman acted against humanity's best interests. Lex says that humans shouldn't entrust their safety on an alien. It was because of Superman that AmazoTech was destroyed, and Anthony Ivo became a monster. When Jimmy accuses Lex of xenophobia, Lex replies that Earth should be for Earthlings.
Lois and Sam evade an attack from Atomic Skull and arrive at a pawn shop to meet up with Sam's contact, Winslow Schott, an expert in robots and an old colleague of Sam. He has secured a passport to help Sam escape from the country, but Lois is frustrated that Sam is leaving. She tries to convince him to stay, until they are attacked by Slade and Sam realizes that Schott wasn't trying to help Sam escape. He was trying to lure him out into the open so that Waller could capture him again, but Slade replies that Waller just wants Sam dead.
Lois and Sam lure Task Force X into the Symposium, where they are helped by Superman. Using technology from the Symposium, Lois and Sam to escape and force TFX into retreating. Unfortunately, the Symposium is left in ruins and Lex blames Superman for the disaster, even referring to him as the greatest threat to humanity. The audience at the Symposium start berating Superman and Lex thanks Jimmy for inspiring him to carve his own path, something that shock Superman even further. Ashamed, Jimmy leaves the Symposium.
That night, Lois takes Sam to her apartment, just like Superman arrives to check up on Lois. Sam says that he would prefer staying with Lois than with Clark, calling him weird, but Lois still loves Clark. Wanting to give Lois some time with her dad, Superman instead goes to sit on the top of the Daily Planet globe, with only his thoughts to keep him company. He activates the beacon and sends a message to his cousin, Kara. He wants to see his cousin because he doesn't want to be alone anymore. The beacon registers his message and disappears in a flash of light.
Lois tries to call Clark but doesn't get an answer because Superman is busy activating the beacon. She tries to find her father, only to find out that he has escaped and left her alone again.
Meanwhile, Lex and Waller have gathered with leaders from the Pentagon and S.T.A.R. Labs, including Henshaw, to join forces in destroying Superman should he ever become a threat to national security. At the same time, the mysterious Kryptonian warrior approaches Earth.
