Task Force X is a government agency supervised by Checkmate. The agency was created after the event known as Zero Day, dedicated to protecting the Earth from any extraterrestrial threats.
The group uses superpowered criminals and military agents as field operatives. Their main goal is to take down Superman and those who are of his species.
History[]
Following what seemed to be a Kryptonian invasion two decades prior, Sam Lane & Amanda Waller were given the green light to form Task Force X by the US government. With Sam's leadership, the organization was created with the intent to prepare for any extraterrestrial threat and protect earth from it. To this end, Task Force X began to experiment with the remaining Kryptonian technology in hopes of creating super soldiers that could stand up against Kryptonians. They eventually began working with Cadmus, but once it became apparent Cadmus was against creating weapons, Task Force X betrayed them and destroyed most of the laboratory, leaving Brain and Mallah as the only survivors. The group eventually created a base underneath Stryker's Island Penitentiary.
At the start of the series, some of the Kryptonian technology they are researching is stolen by Leslie Willis and, through her, are distributed to various gangs throughout Metropolis. As Task Force X works to retrieve the stolen tech, Superman begin appearing and defeating criminals that were using it. Believing that Superman would eventually sell he planet out to the other kryptonians, Task Force X captures the people that had been using the Kryptonian tech and forcibly inducts them into the organization with the intent to use then against Superman. Eventually the group manages to capture Superman, but upon meeting him in person, Sam begins to have a change of heart and questions their actions. Waller, dissatisfied with the way things were progressing, decides to sabotage the operation by releasing Livewire, leading to Parasite also going on a rampage, and places all the blame at Sam's feet. This results in Sam being removed from Task Force X and being imprisoned while Waller herself is given command.
Waller later begins kidnapping inmates and staff from Stryker's Island Penitentiary and experimenting on them with Kryptonian tech. However, the base and organization are compromised when the Sam and the prisoners are rescued by Superman. Following the event, Parasite attempt to escape, but his suit is disabled by Lex Luthor, who Waller then agrees to appoint as the new lead scientist.

- Task Force X, also known more commonly as the Suicide Squad, is a government-sanctioned organization who uses supervillains for questionably moral and often fatal missions. The first version of the Suicide Squad debuted in The Brave and the Bold #25 in September, 1959.
