The Robbery of the Metropolitan City Bank was a bank robbery that occurred when Intergang, a trio of delinquents, used a Freeze Ray to infiltrate and rob the bank. They were eventually defeated and apprehended by Superman.
Background[]
Intergang busts into the Metropolitan City Bank and scares the civilians out, until the bank security guards stepped in to stop them. Silver Banshee orders Mist to active the Freeze Ray and it froze the guards solid. As the trio broke into the bank vault to collect the money, Superman flies in to stop them. Banshee orders Rough House to hold him off, but he is no match for his Kryptonian super strength, then Banshee steps in and fires a sonic scream at Superman, disorienting him temporarily. Mist couldn't help but stand around doing nothing and decides to use the freeze ray on Superman, which worked and he was frozen stiff, until the ray malfunctioned and started freezing the entire bank.
From outside, Lois and Jimmy saw the bank was freezing over but could not find a way inside, and the ice continued to freeze through the whole street. Intergang tried to stop the freeze ray but couldn't as they started to freeze over as well. Superman couldn't just stay in a block of ice as the ray would be a threat to everyone in Metropolis, he focused and struggled to break free until his eyes started to glow red and they fired beams of intense heat, unlocking a new Kryptonian power called "Heat Vision". Superman then used his new ability to destroy the freeze ray and melted all the ice, as he was ready to uprehend Intergang they disappeared without a trace.
