Red Sun Omega Fields are devices that emit a form of ultraviolet radiation mimicking a red sun, weakening Kryptonian powers.
History[]
Red Sun Omega Field generators were recovered from the aftermath of Zero Day. After faking their deaths, the Brain and Monsieur Mallah used one to cloak their refuge of Cadmus from prying eyes. When Clark Kent first ventured into the field, he found it sapped his powers. When the field was shut down, it exposed Cadmus' presence to Task Force X.[1]
Not long afterwards, Superman was captured by Task Force X and weakened by a Red Sun Omega Field. The field was destroyed when Parasite went on a rampage, sucking out the facility's power.[2]
Around Christmas 2023, Amazo was detained by Checkmate who used a Red Sun Omega Field to keep him weak. When Task Force X sought to reclaim the android, Jimmy Olsen surreptitiously moved Slade Wilson's explosives to the field's generators, allowing Amazo to regain his powers and escape.[3]
In the new year, Superman was brought to Kandor by his cousin where he was tested by Brainiac. After Superman had demonstrated his power against the simulacrum opponents, Brainiac activated a Red Sun Omega Field to allow his drones to detain Kal-El.[4]
When Superman's allies returned to Earth before Brainiac's invasion, Task Force X quickly shot down their ship. After Supergirl saved Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane from falling to their deaths, Amanda Waller used a Red Sun Omega Field and a sample of Kryptonite to disable her. Another field was used to keep her restrained in a prison van before Steve Lombard broke the three out.[5]
