The Metallo units are a series of robots used in the series.
History[]
The Metallo units were robots created by AmerTek scientists John Irons and Silas Stone under the orders of Thomas Weston for the purpose of protecting the citizens of Metropolis. They operate on a singular fusion core located at the AmerTek building. However, the fusion core was unstable and could possibly explode. When Irons and Stone attempted to warn Weston of this, he fired them both and sent Livewire to intimidate them into silence, but after Superman got involved, Weston activated the Metallo units to try and stop Superman and Dr. Irons from deactivating the core.
They were later acquired by Lex Luthor after all of AmerTek's intellectual properties became property of LexCorp. Lex began modifying them at Star Labs, adjusting them to operate on a Kryptonite-based core in a project titled Project-M. When Jimmy, Lois, Brain and Mallah attempt to steal a spaceship to find Superman, Lex sends the unfinished Metallo units to stop them, but most of them are destroyed by Livewire and Heat Wave, allowing the group to escape. Despite the failure, Amanda Waller was impressed with the Metallos, pledging to give Lex whatever resources he needs to complete them.

Trivia[]
- The Metallo units seem to be inspired by the John Corben version and the Metallo of Krypton android from the comics.
- John Corben, otherwise known as Metallo, was created by Robert Bernstein and Al Plastino, first appearing in Action Comics #252 in 1959. A former member of the United States Army who underwent cybernetic enhancements with green Kryptonite as his energy source, Corben was driven mad as a result of it, becoming a recurring enemy of Superman.
- Metallo of Krypton was created by Jerry Coleman and John Sikela, first appearing in Superboy #49 in June, 1956. A robot created by scientists of Krypton, Metallo of Krypton became stranded on an asteroid after the destruction of Krypton. When Superboy crashed landed on the asteroid due to the kryptonite mist surrounding it, Metallo of Krypton would sacrifice itself creating a rocket to help Superboy escape.
