Kryptonians are a race of extraterrestrial humanoids that once inhabited the now destroyed planet known as Krypton. They had founded an empire that went on to spread and wage conflict on countless other worlds in order to expand their control throughout all corners of the universe.
However, generations later, the Kryptonian people eventually moved away from their violent beginnings in favor of genuinely uplifting other worlds with the resources and technology they had as opposed to one-sidedly subjugating them, and eventually abandoning any aspects of imperialism entirely.
During their war with a enemy more powerful than even them, the Kryptonians had attempted to resolve the ongoing conflict peacefully. The species is now practically extinct after their planet was destroyed by the Brainiac system for going against the old militaristic values they made generations ago and viewed their kindness as a threat to it's purpose as a program for war.
History[]
The Kryptonian race once saw themselves as the greatest and most advanced society in the universe, based on Kara's description of the planet, while dedicating itself to advancing lesser worlds through forceful conquest. During the early days of their imperial years, Kryptonian scientists began to study genetic engineering to make each new generation of their kind stronger than the previous one.
However, in the years prior to their destruction, each single Kryptonian had came to realize the path they were on wasn't actually a path towards peace and so they transitioned into more of a peaceful empire that uplifted member planets rather than enslave them, before eventually abandoning imperialism entirely
Extinction[]
Several generations later, the Kryptonians went to war with a enemy that was too powerful for them to defeat on their own. So Jor-El wanted to stop the fighting and even arranged peace talks with their enemies, after learning of the so-called treachery, rather than lose the meaning behind its existence and having been disappointed enough by the compassion that the Kryptonians had for the other worlds, the Brainiac system used Krypton's greatest weapon to cast the planet itself into "Hell" as war is all that it was made for.
After learning what their own A.I system was planning to do and already too late to evacuate the entire planet from the attack, the House of El sent their infant children Kal-El & Kara Zor-El away by two escape pods in hopes of preserving their lives from the cataclysm.
Technology and Weapons[]
- Interstellar travel: Kryptonians had a wide array of technologies to traverse across space, including starships and inter dimensional warp-gates that allowed them to jump from one location to another instantaneously.
- Energy weapons: The Kryptonian military had rifles and guns that could fire deadly energy blasts. These weapons would also be outfitted on their robotic attack drones and spaceships.
- Advanced A.I. and consciousness transfer: To be added
- Brainiac System: It once served as the main artificial intelligence in control of all Kryptonian technology. After the destruction of Krypton, the A.I. program went rogue in its attempts to re-establish the empire.
- Genetic Augmentation: Kryptonian scientists were said to a better understanding of genetics than humans. Not only were they able to access it, but they could manipulate it to improve Kryptonian biology and medicine. According to Brainiac, the origins of their powers was stated to be the result of generations of genetic augmentation and enhancements, making each generation stronger then the last, and that, in the beginning, Kryptonians were no different to humans prior to such advancements.
Characteristics[]
Appearance-wise, Kryptonians are identical to humans. However, their unique physiology gives numerous abilities as well as certain weaknesses that humans do not have.
Powers[]
- Superhuman Strength: Kryptonians possess tremendous physical strength, superior to the fittest human beings.
- Superhuman Durability: Kryptonians possess immense physical durability. If a human were to punch a Kryptonian's body, they would injure themselves.
- Superhuman Stamina:
- Superhuman Speed: Kryptonians can move at superhuman speeds, appearing only as a blur to the naked eye.
- Accelerated Healing: Under a yellow sun, a Kryptonian’s cells can heal from injury at a faster rate than humans, though the speed at which they heal is dependent on the severity of the injury and how much solar energy they have absorbed or still have within their bodies.
- Heat-Vision: Kryptonians can fire beams of energy from their eyes at varying levels of intensity.
- X-Ray Vision: Kryptonians possess the ability to see through solid matter
- Superhuman Hearing: Kryptonians possess extremely powerful hearing. With focus, they can isolate certain sounds.
- Vacuum Adaptation: Kara as showcase that Kryptonian can seemingly breathe into space for an indefinite amount of time.
- Freeze Breath: Kryptonians can blow powerful gusts of winds at freezing temperatures. So far, the only Kryptonian to have demonstrated this ability is Superman, though it is likely that all Kryptonians have the potential to do this. Though Brainiac's statement in episode 5 suggest its an ability that most Kryptonian's do not possess.
- Flight: Kryptonians have the ability to take flight and fly for an indefinite amount of time.
Weaknesses[]
- Kryptonite: A glowing green mineral. Exposure to even a small amount causes excruciating pain and can be potentially fatal to a Kryptonian.
- Red Sun Radiation: Exposure to red sun radiation can drain a kryptonian of their powers.
- X-Ray Limit: Clark has stated that he cannot see pass certain metals during Season 2 episode 2.
Language[]
Kryptonians speak a foreign language unknown to humans known as Kryptonese.

Trivia[]
- In the comics, Kryptonians are a humanoid species far more technologically and biologically advanced than the Humans of Earth. They would become a near-extinct race after their planet's destruction, leaving those such as Kal-El behind as a survivor.
- In contrast to the peaceful scientific utopians of previous media, this show’s incarnation of Kryptonians have a more militaristic mindset, but well on their way to becoming the usual peaceful incarnation which led to their downfall at the hands of Brainiac in fear of becoming obsolete
- The fact that Kryptonians are built, rather than being naturally born is the same as how they are described in the live-action tv series Krypton. It is also from the John Byrne run of Superman comics, where Kryptonians are born from Birthing Matrixes and utilized both genetic enhancement and cloning to improve and extend their lives.
