Kal-El's Spacecraft was a spaceship designed by Jor-El to safely transport the infant Kal-El to Earth.

History

Upon reaching Earth, the ship landed in Smallville where it and its passenger were found by Jonathan and Martha Kent. Adopting Kal-El as their own child, naming him "Clark Kent", the Kents buried the spacecraft where it would continue to grow.

When Clark's powers first manifested, his parents showed him the ship. Activating at his presence, the ship activated its AI duplicate of Jor-El. Panicking at the language barrier, Clark reburied the ship.

Over a decade later, Clark returned to the ship. With Jor-El still unable to speak English, he showed his son images of Krypton's fall before providing him with his costume.

Shortly before Valentine's Day 2023, Clark brought Jimmy and Lois to the farm to show the uppermost layer of his ship.

At Thanksgiving of that same year, when a sample of Kryptonite was exposed, the ship's security system activated its 0MACs and opened a portal to Brainiac. To close the portal, Superman injected the Kryptonite into the power core, shutting down the portal.

Malfunctioning due to the Kryptonite, the ship fell back to Earth, landing in Antartica, its descent being tracked by Star Labs. When Superman, Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen set out to retrieve the ship, they clashed with Task Force X before Jor-El, now able to speak English, teleported the ship's remains away, reconfiguring its remains into the Fortress of Solitude.

When subjecting Superman to the Black Mercy, Brainiac witnessed his memory of fighting past the spacecraft's security protocols, allowing the AI to deduce that Superman's last minute bursts of strength came from a desire to protect the innocent.

Trivia

• It is never explained how or why the spacecraft was capable of growth over the years after it was buried.
• It is unknown if the ship Kara Zor-El was put in was capable of similar growth and development.
  • However, as they were cousins of the same family house, it is possible that her spacecraft was capable of the same growth and development as Clark's.
• It is also never explained how the ship was capable of possessing OMACs to deploy or a copy of the Brainiac system.
