Jor-El is one of the two posthumous overarching protagonists of My Adventures with Superman.
He is the biological father of Clark Kent/Kal-El and the husband of Lara Lor-Van. His younger brother was Zor-El, and his niece Kara Zor-El. A brilliant scientist and one of the rulers of the Kryptonian Empire. He died with Lara, his wife, in Brainiac's annihilation of Krypton and appeared to Clark in the present day as a hologram.
Well-meaning but easily frustrated, Jor-El is a man who only wants what's best for his son. Although his inability to speak English and his refusal to tell the whole truth about the last days of Krypton gets in the way.

Personality[]
Like any Kryptonian, Jor-El was once a proud citizen of the mighty Kryptonian Empire but after many years of pointless wars, the Head of the House of El became disillusioned with their destructive ways, having sent his son away solely to escape the planet's fall and comparing it to a "disease" when his A.I. speaks to Clark in Season 2. However, it is gradually revealed that the Kryptonian Empire, while still expansionist, was actually well on its way to becoming a more peaceful and compassionate society before its destruction, and it was Jor-El's intentions to organize a ceasefire during its final war that sparked Brainiac to destroy the planet and its inhabitants for shifting away from its imperialist beginnings.
While Jor-El hasn't been present in his son's life by virtue of being deceased, he was able to help Clark in some ways. He aided Clark in fighting off Brainiac's forces and saves his son once again when the ship is about to explode and Clark was unable to escape on his own, due to suffering from kryptonite poisoning.
Jor-El can be both sassy and snarky, as he was able to explain that he couldn't speak English to his son before because the translation program was still working on the language. He also, somewhat bitterly, notes that the first time he tried to talk to Clark, the latter buried him underground for 10 years.
He also was quick to call out Clark on bringing Lois, who lacks any of their powers, to a spaceship filled with security drones and in the middle of an inhospitable location with a dry tone, adding that he would have done a grand romantic gesture had he done this with his wife Lara to make up for it.
Jor-El was nonetheless a good person who has come to recognize his race's flaws and attempted to end its last war with a peace treaty rather than continuing to fight.
