My Adventures with Superman Wiki

Flamebird is a social media platform created by Jimmy Olsen to discuss conspiracy theories about aliens, magic and other seemingly-outrageous phenomena.

History[]

Jimmy founded Flamebird sometime during or after college, hosting extra-normal, and sometimes unknowingly correct, discussions.[1]

After Flamebird began to gain more popularity following Jimmy's employment at the Daily Planet, Steve Lombard, under the user alias of "Nah", began releasing trolling response videos, defending that it was to "toughen him up" when the two discovered the other's identities.[2]

During Parasite's rampage throughout Metropolis, Jimmy and Lois Lane used Flamebird to live-stream to the city and make an impassioned plea to the people to turn off their power and starve Parasite, allowing Superman to defeat him.[3]

On Thanksgiving 2023, Perry White bought the platform, making it a subsidiary of the Daily Planet, for five million dollars.[4]

In the new year, Jimmy happily indulged his fortune, though delayed in turning in videos for Perry, being reluctant to use his new staff to help him run the platform.[5] Perry assigned the Newskid Legion to work with Jimmy. Needing a story, Jimmy followed after Clark and Lois to Stryker's Island Penitentiary, the boat he'd rented being used to rescue the illegally detained.[6]

Flamebird's network was later used to put Superman and Jimmy in contact with Dr. John Irons and Amertek's safety cover-ups.[7]

After Kara had abducted Superman,[8] Jimmy burnt through the remainder of his fortune to hire Livewire to help steal a spaceship from Star Labs to mount a rescue mission.[9]

Following the failure of the rescue mission, Jimmy started a live-stream on Flamebird to warn Metropolis of Brainiac's invasion only for Task Force X to shoot down the ship and arrest them all. With Flamebird still live-streaming the arrest, a citizen's blockade quickly formed to distract Task Force X and allow Steve to free Jimmy, Lois and Kara.[10]

Trivia[]

  • Flamebird's usage in the series is a nod to a Silver Age superhero alter ego of Jimmy Olsen from the comics, the second to hold the mantle as Flamebird was a hero from Krypton. Flamebird was the Kryptonian equivalent of Robin and partnered with Nightwing, the Kryptonian equivalent of Batman. In modern comics, the title of Flamebird has been held by various characters, but is mostly associated with Betty Kane, the first and former Batgirl from the Silver Age. Other holders of the moniker include Kara Zor-El, her friend Thara Ak-Var and a Kryptonian goddess.
  • Whenever Flamebird is mentioned, a sound effect of a bird squawking is played.
