My Adventures with Superman Wiki

Amazo, formerly known as Parasite II, is a major antagonist-turned-supporting character in the My Adventures with Superman tie-in comics. A terraforming android created by the Kryptonian Empire, he wound up on Earth, bringing him into contact with Superman.

Biography[]

Centuries ago, Amazo was created as a Terraformation Android designed to reshape worlds into Kryptonian colonies. But on Amazo's first mission, the terraforming machine malfunctioned, unleashing a devastating energy burst on the planet and two other celestial bodies, much to Amazo's horror.[1]

Winding up on Earth, Amazo was subjected to experiments by the CEO of AmazoTech, Anthony Ivo and his assistant Lex Luthor. The two repeatedly electrocuted him to discover the secrets of his absorption technology, making him experience extreme pain.[2] After the collapse of AmazoTech, Amazo fell into the custody of Checkmate. Managing to escape around Christmas 2023, Amazo sought out Superman for help only to be recaptured and held in a Red Sun Omega Field.[3] After Jimmy Olsen tricked Slade Wilson into destroying the field, Amazo was emotionally supported by Clark Kent and fled Checkmate again.[4]

Brought to Clark and Jimmy's Apartment, Amazo was named by Lois Lane but struggled to control his energy absorption powers before Jonathan and Martha Kent arrived. When the group headed to the island where Clark was imprisoned, they ran afoul of Checkmate checkpoint, the stress causing Amazo to begin absorbing the environment, causing the bridge to collapse. After Superman saved everyone, he brought the group to Brain and Monsieur Mallah's old hideout at Cadmus.[2]

After learning of the concept of family, Amazo began to remember his origins before his powers manifested again, absorbing metal to defend his family from Task Force X. Fighting alongside Superman, Amazo beat back the androids before he was shot through the chest by Slade.[5]

His powers cycling out of control, Amazo created an energy field where he showed Superman his first memory as he subconsciously reshaped the landscape into that of Krypton. While Superman encouraged him to be whatever he wanted, Robert DuBois insisted that Amazo was an out of control weapon, activating Project Orion, a reverse engineered terraforming machine that would destroy Amazo and anything in a thousand mile radius.[1]

As Superman tried to destroy Project Orion, Amazo evacuated the Kents, Lois and Jimmy to Metropolis. Returning, Amazo took Superman's place in blocking Project Orion, acknowledging DuBois' point that he was a weapon but choosing to be something better and preserve life, pushing Orion into the atmosphere where he absorbed its mass and energy before it caused him to self-destruct. Managing to salvage Amazo's memory unit, Superman placed him in a simulation until they could upload him to a new body, whose blueprints Jimmy brought to Monsieur Mallah and the Brain. With the simulation being based on Clark's childhood, Amazo offered Superman his thanks.[6]

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

Terraformation Android Body: Integrated with materials similar to the ones used within the techno-organic Parasite Suit, Amazo not only has the ability to absorb energy, but can also absorb the powers of an individual and mimic almost anything he touches and reshape it into a form of his choosing.

  • Superhuman Strength
  • Superhuman Durability
  • Superhuman Speed
  • Power Replication: By advanced technological means, Amazo can duplicate any superpower possessed by another person.
    • Kryptonian Physiology (copied): By making contact with Superman, Amazo copied his physiological abilities, enabling it to use his powers and abilities.
      • Flight: After copying Superman, Amazo gained the power to fly.
      • Heat Vision: After copying Superman, Amazo gained the power to fire beams of intense heat from its eyes.
      • Bio-Electric Aura: Due to copying Superman's powers, Amazo can use his bio-electrical aura.

Weaknesses[]

  • Kryptonite: Due to copying the Kryptonian physiology of Superman, Amazo likely likewise copied his vulnerability to the mineral Kryptonite.
  • Red Solar Energy: Like his Kryptonian makers, red solar radiation robs Amazo of his copied Kryptonian powers.

Abilities[]

  • Expert Combatant
  • Intellect: Unlike other androids (with the exception of Brainiac), Amazo has the ability to think for itself to the point of being willing to ask for help from Superman before being recaptured by Checkmate.

Trivia[]

  • This character is a combination of both the second Parasite (Rudy Jones) and the android Amazo from the comics. Unlike the comics and other adaptations, Amazo was not created by Anthony Ivo on Earth-12, though issue #3 implies that his technology was reverse-engineered into the Parasite Suit.
  • Amazo's character arc seems to draw inspiration from the title character of The Iron Giant, being a robotic weapon from outer space who learns that he doesn't have to wage war. Fittingly, the Iron Giant was inspired to turn away from war by Hogarth Hughes' love of Superman.
  • Amazo's terraformation origins also seem to relate to the World Engines used by Kryptonians in the DCEU film Man of Steel.
